Spaces: Great and Small

The concept of space is a fluid notion. There is not simply one way to define it. Its meanings, its references are diverse and abundant. Examples can include personal space, outer space, limited space and breathing space. It can refer to an area, a gap, or even the elusive act of “giving someone space.”

Sistagraphy presents “Spaces: Great and Small” as a means to share our diverse approach to the theme of space. Our photographs represent the whimsical as well as the spiritual. They range from the literal to the abstract. We hope that as you examine the contrast between them, you will also discover the dichotomy within them. The West African slave dungeons, at first glance, suggest a vast complex of oppressive structures. At the same time, we are reminded of the small, cramped areas where human beings were once confined. A bouquet of flowers can appear enormous to the tiniest of insects, yet to the human eye, it epitomizes the smallest of worlds.

If after viewing this exhibit, you too develop a more critical eye to the things around you, then you will be one step closer to appreciating not only what we see, but the way we see it.
SISTAGRAPHY invites you to enter into our space.
